GDPR Statement

What is the GDPR?

The GDPR (Regulation (EU) 2016/679 - The General Data Protection Regulation) is intended to extend protection for individuals and their data, providing greater transparency and control over where their data is saved and used.

Who does GDPR apply to?

The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) makes clear that this new Regulation applies to ‘controllers’ and ‘processors’ of data. A ‘controller’ is responsible for how and why the data is processed, while the ‘processor’ is responsible for processing personal data on behalf of the controller. The GDPR applies to the processing of personal data carried out by organisations operating within the European Union (EU). It also applies to organisations outside the EU that offer goods or services to individuals in the EU.

Due Diligence

The Direct Marketing Association (DMA) recommends that any person, company or organisation engaging the services of a third party list provider undertakes reasonable due diligence. The statement below serves to answer questions that should immediately be asked of us. Please view separately our Privacy Policy.

Our Statement

We, (The European Database of Libraries Ltd) have compiled and managed our database over the last 30 years solely by our own in house team, based at our registered office in Pheasants Coombe House, Hambleden, Henley-on-Thames, Oxfordshire, RG9 6SD, England. We have never compiled or purchased data from any outside/third party provider. We have never sold our data to any third party. We have never released our data to any third party other than for the legitimate purposes of data processing to perform the marketing service we provide.

We continually research, amend and update the database on a daily basis. It is an Opt-In/Opt-Out database. We collect limited personal data (title, first name, surname, email address) by consent, expressly and freely given through our website where data subjects can Opt-In and/or Opt-Out of receiving electronic and/or postal marketing information from us. Non personal data (job title, address details, telephone number and subject preferences) sufficient and adequate only to allow us to provide a relevant service, aligned to professional workplace interests, are also obtained when expressly and freely given through the website.

We believe that the information we provide at every step of this process through our website is clear and intelligible. We do not offer a marketing service utilising text or telephone.

We have never received any complaints. We complete requests for updating, amending details or unsubscribing immediately on receipt, whether requests have been received through our website, by email communication, by telephone or by post. We take advice directly from the DMA and the ICO.
